Friends are miffed - the general dismay people show when I describe how good the LCD Soundsystem show on Friday was is hilarious and odd all at once.
Had you not heard their music before?
Doesn’t all good recorded music have the propensity to be presented in a way that could be fantastic and enlightening?
To say they were tight would be an understatement - they were so tight they were loose. Despite technical troubles they held the audience in the palm of their hands for over two hours.
Also, it was fun.
Can you stand it? A packed house, sold out show, with temperamental hipsters and party starting bros alike - the bars didn’t stop serving and they all had lines from start to finish, and no one seemed to really care, because the music was good, the audience was fun, and the show was a never ending sea of rhythm and whimsy. A delicate combination of irony and self reverence.
With a new album out you’d expect James to tour the crap out of it - nay. They left out a couple key tracks from the new album - and all the high profile hits off their previous. They performed red meat, but tonight was about the jam and the deep cuts, and the audience loved it.
I’ll be the first to admit, I only knew knew half the songs, but what I knew I loved - and what I didn’t know that night - I know now.
I can’t tell you the last time I left a show that euphoric.
Did you go, what did you think?
