I knew instantly when they mentioned “Shorty” in the first 5 minutes of TREME tonight they were referring to Trombone Shorty - one of the most remarkable jazz musicians I’ve ever seen.
Here’s a clip of him and his mentor Wynton Marsalis going battling back and forth on trumpet. I’m going to hit play and watch the rest - but let’s just say I’m already thrilled with the local flavor and real people they’re tying into this series. Also of note - first time you might have seen Shorty was on Studio 60’s episode ‘The Christmas Show’ which made him an overnight viral sensation.
