I started out Tuesday morning in LA.
Packing and sorting and organizing had quickly become get rid of and jam into parts of car that appeared to be free.
By 2 am I was basically done. By 3 am I was outside of LA and by 6 am I was watching the day wake up in Vegas.
I wouldn’t go to sleep for another 12 hours.
I made my way to McCoy, Colorado to visit friends. Had a great time on their ranch, complete with a Saloon and 90 horse stables I didn’t want to leave.
I quickly discovered just how wide some states in the US are, Utah and Kansas I’m looking at you.
Lots of thinking, lots of listening to music, and lots of talking with friend I hadn’t spoken with in a while and some I’d never really taken the time to get to know.
More than anything there was an incredible sense of peace - nothing was urgent, nothing was immediate, the only people I had to worry about pissing off were truckers. I learned that in Kansas - clearly they’re still bitter about losing to USF a week back. Removing my USF Bulls sticker took care of that.
Stayed in KC Thursday night and caught up with a buddy from college (Lowell) and one Mr Aaron Thacker (yourdp.tumblr.com), fun times were had by all. KC is a weird spot, fun but strange, (mentioned company excluded).
From there I kept chugging along and made it to Columbus, OH. Driving through, MO, IL, IN, and halfway through OH that day. It was late when I checked into my hotel and very uneventful. That day, Indiana was the winner with a pretty remarkable sunset. Illinois had some nice spots, and MO didn’t move me outside of KC.
Saturday found me in the final leg driving through, OH, PA, NJ and finally NY. All of the driving was exceptional and each states countryside unique and pleasant. NY was the major exception. Driving here might be the next inferno of hell.
All in, it was a great trip and 100% worthwhile. If you haven’t driven cross country in the US you should. I’ve now gone across via, I-10, I-20, 1-40, and I-70, spare some parts on the ends, I know them all pretty well.
A few parting notes:
Okay, long post, that’s it. I’m in NY, say hi.
