In a small miracle of miracles, I actually made it to Inglorious Bastards last night. I was right it’s not my normal kind of movie and I think if I had watched it at home, I would have enjoyed but glossed over. But as a movie-going experience, last night was flawless.
How often do you get to see a 30 year old movie on the big screen? With the director and two actors in attendance for a Q&A. Where the entire audience sings Happy Birthday to Enzo Castellari who has just turned 70 the day before and missed his birthday in Italy to be able to screen his film in Los Angeles. All open to the public for only $7. Oh, and the film itself has action, humor, explosions and naked women with machine guns.
Of note, Enzo says he is a Hollywood director, and if you asked him to name a good Italian director, he wouldn’t know what to say other than Fellini.
This is exactly the reason I live in Los Angeles.
*and playing again tonight, though sans special guests, for those who missed it.
couldn’t have said it better. emphasis mine.
