On updating this thing via cell phone at Coachella this weekend, but all energy I had to make any movement had to go to enjoying the awesomeness. Despite the heat and the tents that felt like ovens by 7am, I had a fantastical time.
We got there Thursday, set up our tents, wandered to the beer gardens and drank. The campers were all so friendly and ready to party, I noticed that a big part of the crowd was Australian or from Eastern Germany. We looked over the set lists and tried to plan where we’d be and when (which all changed once we were actually there.)!!!
From what I can remember off the top of my head:
Friday: Sebastian was so great—- getting high and dancing was a great kick off, Cut Copy was disappointing, Tegan and Sara, The National, The Raconteurs, The Swell Season (first time hearing him, and he’s so talented and so funny), Spank Rock kind of sucked, and Jack Johnson was goofy as ever
Saturday: Hot Chip frickin killed it, MGMT, Cold War Kids, M.I.A, PORTISHEAD!!, Prince (left halfway through… just was not feeling him at all)
Sunday: Holy F*ck, Gogol Bordello, Kid Sister, Metric, Sia, and then (on ecstacy) ROGER WATERS! JUSTICE! Roger Waters’ set was great, I started rolling halfway through when they brought out this huge inflated pig and brought it around the whole crowd. Afterwards they let it fly off into the sky and everyone went crazy. Flames, Fireworks, the whole she-bang. Hearing Dark Side of the Moon will probably be one of my favorite concert memories ever.
Justice started about 20 minutes after that, so we had to move with the HERDS of people all the way to the huge tent on the other side of the fields. I don’t think I have to comment about them, they are fricking JUSTICE and it was the best way to end this ridiculous weekend I could ever imagine.
So: even though I ended up not getting drunk once after consuming numerous $7 heinikins and my (smuggled in) vodka, and almost passing out after smoking joints in tents crammed with people with temperatures probably around 110 degrees, I had such a wonderful experience. I did e for the first time and had a really mellow experience which helped me to appreciate the music so much. And I’m already looking forward to next year.
I really hate Andy Gumps though.
the best coachella wrap up to date.
