There is a unique bond that being brothers creates and unique harmonies that our voices, crafted through parents lectures and loud fights and sing alongs growing up solidifies.
The brothers Avett get this in many ways.
When I drove cross country last year I spent a couple weeks in their home state of NC and was introduced to their albums through folks that grew up going to their infectious live shows all throughout the region. It wasn’t my first time in NC by any stretch, but it was the first time to see a state with their music as a sound track - specifically Carolina Jubilee & Emotionalism.
When my brother heard them he fell for their music just as instantly as I did. The first time we sung along, we took parts instinctively, knowning what the other would like to sing and what they wouldn’t. Sometimes we sing the same part - often times we don’t - regardless the familial harmonies that are created - and the ways they mimic their music is glorious and one of my favorite parts about going home and taking a nice long drive with my brother … and the Avett’s of course.
