I saw human giant tonight - it was 5 bucks.
The show was solid and mostly featured their new work and upcoming show.
That said, the crowd was good and mostly comprised of people I’d like to work with. As I sat in the rain (for almost 45 minutes, glad I got dinner between shows) I met some awesome people.
I’m 100% going to look into classes at UCB and look at the chance to preform there in the near future.
great story from sharingtime below:
I went to see “Things I’ve Learned From Women Who’ve Dumped Me” tonight at UCB. The show is comprised of readings from a book of the same name. It’s full of true stories from funny people about how they’ve been dumped (duh). The cabride home was $9. The show was $5 and was a helluva bargain considering the talent involved.
First of all, Fountains of Wayne was the musical guest. They’ve been a favorite band of mine since college, which was 8 years ago! I’ve seen them before, but not in a venue which seats about 150. They even played a favorite song of mine, “Leave the Biker.”
The guest readers were all hilarious: Eric Slovin, Paul Simms (he wrote and directed one of my favorite Flight of the Conchords episodes where they go on tour) and Will Forte from SNL. The show could’ve ended there and been perfect, but they had to go and announce a special guest. Here was her intro:
“Our special guest was born in New Jersey. (blah blah blah) She is a mother of two children…”
I’m thinking Tina Fey. She’s at UCB a lot.
“She was in a movie called The Blue Lagoon. Ladies and gentleman…”
Huh? Tina wasn’t in that movie. This has got to be a joke. It’s not who I think it is, is it?
“…Brooke Shields!”
Sure enough, she walks out and proceeds to bring the house down with an awesome story about being dumped by a world-famous musician in the 80s. I couldn’t do it justice, so I’m not going to try, but she was unbelievably entertaining and funny. I can see why America was obsessed with her for a while.
Best 5 bucks I’ve spent in a while!
