USF - Beat Bad
My alma mater the University of South Florida was dismantled on National TV today. It’s frustrating but a sign of a young team. Wish I could’ve been there to cheer them on - even in defeat there’s solice in rooting for a team you’ve watched since their first game.
Reflection and Focus
I’m in Palm Beach for New Years - been here about 2 days now and will most likely take the train back to Tampa. My flght to California is Wednesday. Thursday I’m hitting the ground running. So long 2007.
Now pulling into MIA
NYE here we come.
How Litigious is Our Society?
When 20 minutes of airtime in a 40 minute flight is devoted to diasaster safety demos and inflight evac videos?
Oh My Sweet Dashboard
To my friends that don’t use tumblr (YOU SHOULD) this might not make sense because I follow fellow tumblr’rs and see what they post when they post. Tonight was exception and just what the Dr. ordered. Thanks to the hilarious emilymichelle folks for the always objectionable, but always spot on humor. Thanks to juliaallison for having one of the most introspective blogs I’ve ever...
Ugh - random thoughts
Warning stream of thoughts ahead: I cut almost all my hair off, I look like a Navy recuit. Thanks to my childhood barbershop for dialing me down a solid 5 points on the cool scale. Radio in Tampa is awful. How do I meet friendlier people in LA than Tampa? When did this happen? I totally forgot how many cops are in the south. I miss my tumblr feed. Bad. Rach, save me with some music, nick gray,...
Christmas Eve Aftermath:
The Christmas Eve service was awe inspiring and had a military service appreciation under currrent I wasn’t expecting. It also had a recorded dramatic bit that went along with the message - much longer then the one’s I’ve seen at my church in LA. My family’s knowledge of college football in the south is simply astounding. We did a baby dedication for our family - my cousin...
Notes on Christmas Eve 2007:
My favorite two texts I sent today: “my father discovered the art of illegally downloading music, the world beware!” he’s got over 10,000 vinyl albums, so he’s got that going for him, which is nice. “may your Christmas be smothered, covered, and chunked. :)” nick g. (aka oats) loves him some waffle house. We’re doing a gift swap tonight, my contribution is...
My Favorite Rap Video Cliches
1. Children Dancing Insanely Well Maybe this is a cultural thing, but when I see Riverdance and Celtic Women on PBS they don’t parade their youth om stage to outshine them. 2. Champagne So I can see how Champagne is oppulent and just so over the top and frivolous that a group of adult males all hanging out just HAVE to pop a bottle or four. 3. Creating a New Dance Craze Who...
Don Rickles
The Don Rickles bio on hbo features Newhart in a light I’ve never seen. Very neat stuff.
The Story of 2007 →
The economic story of 2007 isn’t Facebook being worth $15bn, its not the subprime mess and the resulting credit crunch, its not the fact that the US economy seems eerily similar to where we were in 1975. The economic story of 2007 is where the money is coming from. The capital that is propping up our companies and economy is coming from China, The Middle East, and Russia. On Monday we...
Home in Florida
I slept for almost 3.5 hours on my 5 hour flight. I love flying direct for that reason - Somehow on all the trips growing up I learned to sleep anywhere and fast. The couple next to me looked like they were matched via a mail order scam ring. Sweet folks. I borrowed my parents car tonight to go see my cousins who all had just come home from school. It was great to see them and neat to borrow a...
Little Known Hollywood fact...
The stars on the Hollywood walk of fame are extremely slippery when it rains. — andrewmuto or when bums urinate on them.
Music for Airports
The 80s had eno’s music for airports. Today we have william fitzsimmons. Not nearly as ambient but brilliantly simplistic and entirely enjoyable. I’m going to sleep like a rock on this flight. A rock. Flight 1781 nonstop lax to tpa is almost departed. Night.
No Boarding Zone 1
I’m zone 8. Probably 8 of 8. But I’m ok with that. Its better than the southwest cattle call. Ugh. I love and hate southwest all at once. Flying delta today. I enjoy delta when flying direct. They’ve lost my luggage multiple times in multi leg flights.
Flying to FL Tomorrow
Will be working from Florida for the better part of the next two weeks. Tumblr - my love for your is undying - don’t change too much. K thanks.
Speed dating it is. (they still might be the...
Still one of the funniest parts of my day. I need to find speed dating in LA from the looks of the email exchange below. Just kidding mom. Seriously though, does anyone have recommendations? See below to find out how Michelle bamboozled her way into a free evening of being hit on by impotent err impatient men, she says: There will be a full report tomorrow, or whenever I get around to it. ...
Project Song
On all things considered is awesome. I love concept of creating something improvisationally that can have a lasting impact.
The effort was organized entirely by volunteers online.
– Zach Klein (www.secretenemyhideout.com) just posted this: This past Sunday, the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul made history Sunday by raising $6 million in online contributions in 24 hours, breaking the record for the most money raised by a...
not incredibly informative, but a neat blurb no less.
Steve Earle on Sounds Eclectic
I finally caught Steve Earle’s new album on the way to church tonight. Inspired stuff.

I'm SO Not Interested
I’m not interested in quaint excuses and convienent circumstances I’m not endowed with the reach of Gods nor do I command it But the truth that emits from my lips is real as the breath in your lungs. Your choice to be blind, Your choice to turn away, Your choice. Is yours alone. Understand this, I see the path, and I’ve played the game. I’m not interested in your glory or...
The Getty Center at 10: Still Aloof, Yet Totally... →
During much of the 1990s, as the Getty Center was rising on its Brentwood hilltop, a couple of stubborn questions dogged the hugely ambitious project: Would Richard Meier’s design ever have anything meaningful to do with, or say about, the cityover which it loomed? Or would it exist as an expensive import, a vast collection of smooth enamel and rough travertine conjured up by a New York...

Going to My 4th Toys for Tots Drive Party
I’ve never been to so many “toys for tots” holiday house parties … ever, much less in one Holiday season. My mom is a big part of the Toys for Tots back in FL and she had mentioned them taking a more grassroots approach because corporate sponsors and large community groups had flatlined in years past. I like innovation - I love innovation for a good cause.
a perspective on the news (posted by SamReich)
i just watched my local news for the first time in ten years. it was something to do with it being the only new thing on television. who are they kidding with this shit? why would i care what celebrity is on drugs this week? what if i don’t like sports? why would i want to watch ten minutes of the weather when i could look it up online? what’s with the graphics and presentation...

– Paul Krugman - NYT Op/Ed … While I really despise Krugman’s ability to over politicize more than any published Econmist on the planet currently, his point is valid and salient. Negative equity wouldn’t be a big deal if people could refi, we all know that is no longer an option...
Argentina Answers To the Crazy Call of (91 year... →
When Tangalanga made a nuisance call to a Buenos Aires woman who sold statues used in the Santeria religion, she spent nine minutes cursing him. She insulted his mother and his sister — and then she insulted his mother’s sister. When he called back, she cussed him out for another 13 minutes. Later he and the woman became friends, and she appeared as a guest at one of his shows.

“Everyone knows the future of cancer treatment lies in cancer cocktails,” says David Kessler, dean of the school of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Kessler says the Food and Drug Administration needs to undertake an effort similar to one it did when he was commissioner in the 1990s, when it amended the drug-approval process to speed approval of AIDS-drug...

NBC has set Feb. 17 as the premiere date for its two-hour “Knight Rider” revamp and announced that Will Arnett (“Arrested Development”) will provide the voice of the new KITT car. NBC also has released official images of the crime-fighting super-vehicle, below (thankfully, NBC’s latest product placement-mobile is a Ford Mustang, not a Nissan Rogue).
5 Things Fred Armisen Loves about LA (via RickyV)
NO way! I was just posting about how much I loved living here and the next post in my dashboard was RickyV’s one below. I’ve never seen the museum in Culver City but the other 4 I can agree whole heartedly - they’re awesome. See below: Top 5 Things I Love About Los Angeles by Fred Armisen 1. The Museum of Jurassic Technology in Culver City. I wish I could make my living room...
Last Night
Went ice skating for the first time in … forever. Pershing Square in Downtown LA has a (very very) little rink. Then we went to the Standard Downtown’s rooftop bar, which was impressive at night. Finally we ended up at the Golden Gopher (a new fave) and I played old school video game and drank water while the guys all tried to get drunk and pick up on our much older and severly tatooed...
24 Hours of Tumblr and 20 pages of Dashboard Posts
I think I’m following too many people that have too much to say. In 24 hours I’ve had 20 new pages of posts. That’s just insane. While it only took 30 minutes to catch up - the amount of info on my brain is maddening. Time for a run.
